According to the FedEx lady, Hpnotiq is the new drink in town. It's vodka and cognac and fruit juices and it's in a blue bottle. She got some at Kappy's and it's chillin. After hearing this, and realizing that I don't think I've ever bought a pre-mixed mixed drink I felt a need to investigate. Here is what I've learned:
- Imported from France, the recipe for Hpnotiq is has been handed down from generation to generation.
- Its name is spelled incorrectly.
- The Charantais region of France has a long and well-established tradition of mixing fine cognac with fresh fruit juices.
- The combination of the font that Hpnotiq uses on its website, along with the contrast of colors, makes it almost impossible to tell the difference between the lowercase "e" and lowercase "a."
- The cognac used by Hpnotiq is the perfect balance of cognac from the 3 primary regions. After creating this perfect and delicate blend of cognac, they then reduce the proof "from cask strength to 34 proof (17% alcohol by volume), the optimal strength for enjoying Hpnotiq." This confuses me because I was under the impression that cognac has a minimum alcohol content of 40% volume, and that there were not 3, but 5 major regions in which it is grown.
- I find it impossible to spell "Hpnotiq" correctly the first time. I always want to add a "y" between the "h" and the "p"
- "Add to this its extraordinary, all-natural icy blue aqua color, and consumers will enjoy a sensory experience unlike any they've tried before..."
- In the recipes section, they have Hpnotiq martinis and cosmopolitans and margaritas, but my favorite recipe is for the "HPNOTIQ Chill," which consists of 2 oz. HPNOTIQ served over ice. Last I checked, pouring something over ice doesn't make it a cocktail, it makes it "rocks" but I'll overlook it that for the all-natural icy blue aqua color.
