My pants smell like ass. And by ass I mean wet dog. Friggin wool. I don't know if that was rain coming down this morning on my way to work. It sounded awfully crispy. Maybe it was icy rain. Or sleet. Or something particularly East Coast. Okay, I was just informed by the girlfriend of me (and with some attitude I'd like to add...) that it is in fact snowing outside. In October.
Last week I was remembering the time when a light sweater and a cardigan was winter outerwear. That was when I lived in Texas. Don't get me wrong, I would put on a hat and a scarf too. Growing up in California I had a winter coat. I would wear it 2 to 3 times a year. Now when I go home in December/January I look at people wandering around all bundled up in their trench coats and hats and leather gloves and just think "yeah...it's KIND of COOL, but it's not so cold that you need to be wearing every article of clothing you own!" The coldest it has EVER been in San Jose (since they've been keeping track of that sort of thing) is 20 degrees. But the average lowest temperature of the year is 40 degrees.
I never had a big dick about cold weather until I moved to the East Coast. I think that complaining about how poorly people in warmer climates deal with "cool" weather is just a way of justifying the crappy weather we live in. Like if we pass if off as a strength of character to be able to deal with shovelling snow and coasting to stops midway into intersections it makes it the better place to live.
My favorite part about the cold weather is the comfort food. And bourbon.
My least favorite part about the cold weather is the part where I have to get out of my warm bed into the cold cold air.
